We like BOTH, because it represents “the best of both worlds.”
Morally, we like BOTH right and wrong, black and white mixed. Fondly, of late, it’s called “our truth”
To us, in the world and of the world is a perfect expression of our inner selves.
We like BOTH our spouse and our “side-sweet,” and from monosexuality, we are increasingly going bisexual and pansexual.
We do BOTH Christian and secular, and we are both sinner and saint seamlessly with little condemnation. There was no confusion among Jesus’ disciples. Plainly, He said, “They are not of the world, even as I am not of the world.” – John 17:14
We call it balance, but it is imbalance that the Bible calls being double-minded or undecided, uncertain, and irresolute. It is stressful, and it makes it hard to impossible for one to accomplish or identify with any one thing.
BOTH doesn’t work with God. No man can serve two masters: for either he will hate the one and love the other; or else he will hold to the one and despise the other.… -Mark 6:24
To us, BOTH is a perfect mixture of cold and hot, comfortable, not too much of one or the other. Jesus calls it lukewarm. It makes Him want to puke us out of His mouth.
Lord, help US.
Much as you and I love our versions of BOTH, some more radical and unorthodox than others, and say we love God, Jesus makes it clear. Both will not do. That is double mindedness, confusion, and disloyalty.
Adam and Eve tried both thinking it would advance them and make them more relevant when they ate of the tree in the midst of the garden. Sadly, it cost them their perfect existence. Today, be single-minded. It simplified your life, and it is the only life that is acceptable to God.–
God’s best to you,
